September 15, 2022 – HBL worked with Hawaii Department of Transportation to get the south section of the Nimitz Path repaved. We created an online petition and form letter that outlines the issues with the path and the need to repave it. We discussed with the HDOT Bike and Pedestrian Coordinator the need to repave the path.
The asphalt is cracked, there are potholes, roots pushing up, trash all over, lack of good lighting, etc. Many cyclists prefer to bike on the highway instead of the path because of these issues. We asked for a budget and a regular schedule set for maintenance.
