Upcoming Events in 2026
In 2026, Hawai‘i Bicycling League is rolling out a strong lineup of signature events that highlight cycling, community, and advocacy across O‘ahu. The calendar includes:
- Supporting the O‘ahu Hill Climb Challenge throughout all of January and February.
- Organizing the scenic Mākaha Time Trial on Sunday, February 1st.
- Hosting the Pedal Pāʻina: HBL’s Annual Benefit Dinner on Friday, March 6th.
- and for April we have Zach’s Ride in Paradise and the iconic Hale‘iwa Metric Century.
Together, these events bring all riders, supporters, and partners together to celebrate cycling in Hawai‘i while advancing HBL’s work in education, safety, and active transportation.

Cycling Shimanami 2026
HBL members are invited to join the Cycling Shimanami event in October 2026! Ride across Japan’s inland sea on car-free expressways! A unique and bucket-list cyclist event!
2026 Hawai‘i Legislative Session
The 2026 Hawai‘i legislative session will begin on Wednesday January 21st and is expected to conclude on May 8th. HBL will be tracking measures related to active transportation including walking, biking, rolling and public transit.

Federal funding for walking and biking projects Threatened
The politician in charge of writing the next major federal transportation bill has signaled his intent to zero out funding for walking and biking infrastructure — unless advocates can rally their own representatives to resist him.
HDOT Launched Priority Multimodal Network
In November, 2025, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation finally launched their Priority Multimodal Network. The plan is a collection of project on the state highway system that is intended to fill gaps in pedestrian, transit, and bicycle access throughout the islands.
