Open House – Celebrating HBL’s 50th Anniversary
On December 16th Hawai‘i Bicycling League will be hosting an Open House at our Kaimukī office where we’ve been operating for the past 31 years. This gathering is free and it will be our final celebration for our 50th Anniversary and a chance to learn about what happens behind-the-scenes at HBL. Pūpū and drinks available by donation so come out, talk story with HBL & fellow supporters, and see where all the magic happens
Year End Fundraising
2025 marks 50 years of HBL — beginning in 1975 as a grassroots effort during the energy-crisis era, HBL has grown into a statewide movement for health, sustainability, community, and safe bicycling.
As part of this anniversary, HBL is closing in on a $500,000 fundraising goal — as of November 17th, $463,730 has been committed in new gifts, grants, and pledges (that’s about 92% of the goal). Click through to learn more.

HBL’s New Supporter platform
In August 2024, HBL transitioned to a new and improved membership platform. All existing memberships (including membership levels and expiration dates) were transferred over to the new system. In 2025, events and donations were added to this platform, creating a single, streamlined place for all of your HBL engagements.

2025 Honolulu Century Ride – Traffic Advisory
The Hawai‘i Bicycling League will present the largest bicycling event in the State of Hawai‘i on Sunday, September 28, 2025. The marquee Honolulu Century Ride, now in its 42nd year, is part of the Ride Aloha Festival, a weekend of related events with nearly 2,000 total expected participants. We invite the public to help us share aloha and our roadways so that everyone gets where they need to go safely!

Biki Update
On August 6, 2025, the Honolulu City Council Adopted a Resolution to transfer $1M from the City’s Climate Resiliency Fund to the Department of Transportation to expand Biki options for transit commuters. Read more about this move to support bikeshare as public transportation.

Press Release – HBL Response to Executive Order No. 25-08
The Hawai‘i Bicycling League (HBL) commends Governor Green’s call for urgent action to improve safety on Hawai‘i’s roadways, particularly for our most vulnerable road users. The number of traffic fatalities we have seen this year is alarming, and it is clear that a collaborative effort is needed to address these issues. HBL is committed to being part of the solution.

S. King St. Repavement Project: Sept. – Dec. 2025
Head’s up, S. King Street is being repaved! Pavement repairs will be conducted on S. King Street from Alapa‘i Street until Ke‘eaumoku Street, taking place Monday through Friday from 8:30am-3:30pmm, starting on September 29, 2025. The City expects to have construction completed by December 31, 2025. Read on for more details & rider tips.
