Introducing Re:Cycle: Giving Bicycles a Second Life

At the Hawaiʻi Bicycling League, we believe every bicycle deserves the opportunity to be ridden. That’s why we’re excited to officially launch Re:Cycle, our used bicycle program that gives donated bicycles a second life while making bicycling more affordable and sustainable across Hawaiʻi.

For years, community members have generously donated bicycles to HBL. While we’ve helped connect many of those bikes with new riders, Re:Cycle formalizes and expands that effort into a dedicated program that benefits our community, our partners, and the environment.

How Re:Cycle Works

When a bicycle is donated to HBL, our team evaluates its condition and determines the best path forward.

Many bicycles are refurbished and returned to the community through HBL or one of our valued partners, including Kupuna Shed, KVIBE, and Cycle Manoa. Some bicycles are refurbished and sold through HBL, with proceeds supporting our education, advocacy, and community programs.

Unfortunately, not every bicycle can be restored. When a bicycle has reached the end of its useful life, we’ll salvage any usable components to help repair other bicycles and responsibly recycle the remaining materials whenever possible.

By keeping bicycles out of the landfill and back on the road, Re:Cycle helps reduce waste while making cycling more accessible for people of all ages.

A New Partnership with Re-use Hawaiʻi!

We’re proud to launch Re:Cycle alongside a new partnership with Re-use Hawaiʻi, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing waste, creating jobs, and advancing the circular economy through deconstruction and material reuse.

Together, HBL and Re-use Hawaiʻi are making it even easier for our community to donate bicycles that are no longer being used and connect more people with affordable transportation and recreation.

Through this partnership, Re-use Hawaiʻi will serve as a convenient location, open 7 days a week, where community members can donate bicycles! Plus, HBL will regularly offer refurbished bicycles for sale at Re-use Hawai‘i!

It’s a natural partnership between two nonprofits committed to sustainability, resource conservation, and strengthening our community.

Donate Your Bike

Have a bicycle that’s no longer being ridden? Or useful parts collecting dust?

Your donation can help someone discover the joy of cycling, provide affordable transportation, support HBL’s mission, or supply valuable parts to keep other bicycles rolling.

Every donated bicycle makes a difference.

We look forward to giving more bicycles a second life—one bike, one rider, and one ride at a time.

Donations can be dropped off at Re-use Hawai‘i daily from 9-5, or at HBL’s office on weekdays in Kaimuki. Give us a call before coming by to confirm we’re at the office. 808-735-5756.
