Hawai’i Bicycling League is proud to announce that we are adding a new Chapter to our ‘ohana. Starting July 1st, 2026 Maui Mountain Bike Coalition will be partnering with HBL as a formal Chapter.
Maui Mountain Bike Coalition (MMBC) has been dedicated to creating, enhancing, and protecting the great places to ride mountain bikes in Maui since 2012. MMBC was formally a chapter of the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) and remains an IMBA Affiliate partner. By becoming a Chapter of HBL, our collective efforts working towards a bicycle-friendly Hawai‘i will be strengthened.
MMBC’s focus areas include:

- Bringing off-road riders together with group rides, skills clinics, and various other events
- Operating the West Maui Bike Park and supporting the Kapalua Trail System
- Maintaining the Kahakapao Recreation Area aka Makawao Forest Reserve in partnership with the State of Hawaiʻi and Nā Ala Hele
- Advocating at the County and State levels for better mountain bike trails and access in Maui
MMBC joins two other Chapters at HBL:

- Maui Bicycling League (founded 2014), dedicated to creating a bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly community throughout Maui County. Focus areas include monthly group rides, the annual Maui Memorial Ride of Silence, keiki bike education, educating Maui residents and visitors through Share the Road, Vision Zero, and safety campaigns, and advocacy for bike-infrastructure projects like the West Maui Greenway.
- HBL Dirt (founded 2024), dedicated to creating safe, fun, and permanent off-road biking experiences across Hawaii. Focus areas include the Koko Head Bike Park, the Central O‘ahu Regional Park Pump Track, Ohana Trail maintenance, and convening a monthly state-wide MTB hui to coordinate trail and MTB advocacy together in a unified movement.

Through our Chapter system, Hawai‘i Bicycling League offers a non-profit administrative foundation to enable passionate groups of people to build off our organization’s 50 year legacy and to help enable more people to ride bicycles across Hawai‘i. Our Chapter system provides space for efforts to grow and remain focused, while HBL provides the backend support needed for membership, grants, financials, contact database, and more.
We will maintain one membership across HBL and our Chapters. If desired, you’ll have the option to select a Chapter during membership signup and renewal. By affiliating your HBL membership with a Chapter, a portion of your membership fees will be allocated to supporting Chapter priorities and projects. Starting soon, you’ll also be able to select Chapters as an “interest” area to receive their updates. Additional donations can be made directly to a Chapter via their website.
