In the spring of 2025, HBL visited with members of the Hawai‘i Congressional delegation and their staff on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. We alerted them about serious concerns that the US DOT and Trump Administration are deprioritizing bike infrastructure projects.
In November, Representatives Case and Tokuda joined with House Colleagues to write a letter to Transportation Secretary Duffy expressing their serious concerns that the DOT is ignoring Congressional and local priorities through cancellation of numerous bike and pedestrian projects around the nation. Our representatives affirmed their support for bike infrastructure funding because they “see the returns in stronger local economies, healthier residents and safer roads.“
You can read the full letter here. To date, we are not aware of bike/ped project cancellations in Hawai‘i, but are continuing to monitor the situation closely. Knowing that our representatives share our values as regards funding for walking and biking infrastructure means so much.
Please join with HBL by sharing your own personal mahalo for this allyship. Their contact info is linked with their name Rep Case and Rep Tokuda. If you can, please also copy your message and send it to Advocacy Director Eduardo Hernandez This way, we can also mention your support when we visit with them again later this year.
