It’s Time to Drive With Cool Aloha Vibes
Walk Bike Drive is a program that encourages friendly driving between those in vehicles and the rest of us who share the road. Cyclists and pedestrians are considered vulnerable users when it comes to the use of Hawai‘i’s highways and byways. Cyclists are considered drivers in Hawai‘i, subject to the same laws as those driving cars, trucks and buses.
Hawai‘i’s “Vulnerable User Law” provides for tougher prosecution when a vulnerable road user is seriously injured or killed due to negligence or a traffic violation. This law aims to increase safety for these users by increasing penalties for drivers who cause harm.
In about a 10-minute presentation, drivers will learn how important they are when it comes to protecting cyclists and pedestrians while on their drives. Hawai‘i Bicycling League (HBL) recommends that companies and businesses with fleets take advantage of this free video presentation that encourages friendliness and courtesy on the road when encountering cyclists and pedestrians.
