National Bike Month
Celebrate Bike Month with HBL & Friends! Grab your bike and join us for a ride, a pau hana, or a volunteer opportunity. We have a month full of events to encourage you to get out and explore via bike. Join us for one event or join us for all of them. We hope to see you out there!

Annual Benefit Dinner
The Hawai‘i Bicycling League’s 50th Anniversary Benefit Dinner is a special celebration marking five decades of advancing safe, fun, and accessible cycling across the islands. This milestone evening brings together cyclists, advocates, and supporters to honor HBL’s rich history, enjoy great food and company, and look ahead to the next fifty years of progress. Proceeds from the event support HBL’s vital safety education, advocacy, and community programs — ensuring that cycling in Hawai‘i continues to thrive for generations to come.

Ride Aloha Festival
The Ride Aloha Festival is a fun, family-friendly celebration of cycling and community, hosted by the Hawai‘i Bicycling League. Enjoy group rides, live entertainment, food, and activities for all ages — all promoting safe, joyful biking across Hawai‘i.

HBL’s New MEmbership platform
On August 15th 2024, HBL transitioned to a new and improved membership platform. All existing memberships (including membership levels and expiration dates) were transferred over to the new system. In the coming months you’ll also be able to sign up for events and volunteer opportunities with HBL on the new platform, creating a single, streamlined place for all of your HBL engagements!

2025 Hawai‘i Legislative Session – Update #5, March 3
The 2025 Hawai‘i Legislative Session has reached the first decking deadline for bills to emerge from all their committee referrals and proceed to crossing over to the next respective chamber. Of the bicycle and pedestrian bills, we’ve been tracking, seven bills are expected to continue being heard and considered.

Honolulu Awarded Silver Status for being a Bicycle Friendly Community
Honolulu has been recognized as a silver status bicycle friendly community in a national ranking by the League of American Bicyclists. This status recognition is higher than the bronze level last awarded in 2018.

The 2025 Hawai‘i Legislative Session is in full swing. HBL is tracking dozens of bills that could significantly impact people who ride bicycles and their families. In this post, we have some updates and information for you to be informed and know how and when to submit your own testimony.

How to Report Dangerous Driving
Drivers of motor vehicles that are intentionally hostile to people bicycling are often serial offenders. By reporting the aggressive or hazardous behavior of the driver to local police it allows the incident to be documented with law enforcement and more importantly gives officers a chance to intervene with the driver before they repeat their actions to another fellow cyclist or vulnerable road user.

Honolulu City Council Passes E-Bike Safety Law
On January 29th, The Honolulu City Council voted unanimously in favor of Bill 52, which aims to establish clear guidelines for e-bikes by introducing key safety provisions. The bill now heads to Mayor Rick Blangiardi for his approval.
