On Friday, May 2nd, we received a proclamation from the Mayor designating May as Bike Month! We were joined by our partners at the City, State, and Biki at the proclamation reading. The City was also presented with a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists.

On Sunday, May 4th, we kicked off the Bike Month celebrations at Thomas Square. Joined by nearly a dozen community partners, we celebrated National Ride a Bike Day, as well as the 10th anniversary of the King St protected bike lane. This bike lane was recently extended into downtown Honolulu, passing by Honolulu Hale and Iolani Palace.
We heard from DTS Deputy Director, Jon Nouchi, regarding the City’s bicycle efforts. Torrance Strong, board member for the League of American Bicyclists, spoke about the Bicycle Friendly Community efforts across the nation. And former Mayor, Kirk Caldwell, spoke of the vision for a protected bicycle network 10 years ago and the progress that has been made since. Mahalo to everyone who attended and to our community partners for their support!
