Bike Month 2025 was jam-packed with bicycling fun, events, and advocacy! Here is a photo recap of everything Hawaiʻi Bicycling League did for Bike Month in May:

We started with an official proclamation from Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi that May 2025 is Bike Month. We also celebrated the City receiving a Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Cyclists.

Our Bike Month Kickoff also celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the King Street Protected Bike Lane.

Part 1 of our 2025 Filmed By Bike screening, held at Patagonia Honolulu, was a blast! We’ll be back to screen Part 2 of the 2025 Filmed By Bike series here on Friday, August 8th. (You can get tickets for that here!)

For National Bike to Work Week we had daily Energizer Stations around Honolulu. All of the riders in this gallery stopped by on their way to work! We were joined by friends from Biki, Honolulu DTS, Kauai Coffee, OahuMPO, HPD’s District 6 CPT, and HHF Planners.

We had a great turnout for our Bike Lane Cleanup on Ward Ave

On May 21st we held a Ride of Silence to honor those who were killed while riding their bicycles on public roads.

HBL’s Executive Director Travis Counsell appeared on Insights on PBS Hawaiʻi to discuss e-bike safety along with Representative Darius Kila (Transportation Chair, Hawai‘i House of Representatives), Council member Matt Weyer (Honolulu City Council), and Major James Slayter (Honolulu Police Department).

We planted trees at Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park in Waiʻanae with the City and County of Honolulu’s Community Forestry Program.

…and we wrapped up the month with a Pau Hana + Bike Month Trivia celebration!

Bike Month occurs every year in May, but if you missed out don’t worry… every month is bike month at HBL! Keep an eye on our website and Spoke-n-Words newsletter for updates on what bike events and activities we’ll do next.
