On Saturday, April 5th, 2025 – Over 100 people participated in Zach’s Ride for Safe Streets. Mahalo!

We gathered at Old Stadium Park, where we wrote postcards to elected officials supporting more safe streets efforts, and talked story with family & friends. We then rode as a group down the King St Protected Bike Lane to ‘Iolani Palace for a group photo, then to Fasi Municipal Building for speeches and sign waving.

Zach’s brother, Nick Manago, welcomed the crowded and reminded us why we work hard to keep Zach’s vision alive. We heard from Daniel Alexander of the City’s Department of Transportation Services about the impacts these efforts have had in the past and projects coming in the near future. We heard from sergeant Thomas Billins of HPD Traffic about the ongoing efforts by police to create safe communities for all road users. And we heard from HBL’s Executive Director, Travis Counsell, about the need to stand up and demand change.

After speeches, we sign waved along King St with shakas and horn honking. Then we rode back to Old Stadium Park for an ono picnic lunch prepared by Zach’s family & friends.

On behalf of the Hawai’i Bicycling League, we extend our sincere mahalo to everyone who participated and supported Zach’s Ride for Safe Streets. We must continue working towards zero roadway fatalities and remind everyone to share the road with aloha.
