AID STATION ADOPTEES

The Honolulu Chinese Jaycees is a professional development, and community-minded organization for Hawaii's young professionals between 18-40 years of age. We are a part of a larger international organization, JCI, which is composed of like-minded individuals creating positive change in their communities and countries. The Honolulu Chinese Jaycees hosts/assists in annual signature projects, such as Night in Chinatown, Hawaii Dragonboat Festival, The Healthy Baby Contest, and the Honolulu Marathon. Our chapter has previously supported the Hawaii Bicycling League at the Honolulu Century Ride, through our connection with Aid Station Coordinator, Lisa Nakasone, who is an honorary member of our chapter. We continue to recognize the importance of the return to in-person events after these past years of pandemic-induced isolation, and would like to support our communities in providing opportunities to come together, enjoy the camaraderie, and strengthen our communal bonds. Learn more about our chapter by visiting www.honoluluchinesejaycees.org!

Hawai‘i Swimming Club: In 1983, Marcelle Araki rode her first Honolulu Century Ride. She was a member of the Central YMCA. Marcelle rode at least 3 HCR rides, and around 3 more when HBL used to have workers' rides the week before the actual Century. She's helped ever since, together with her friends and family. She couldn't do this without them and wouldn't have near as much fun! The Century Ride has become their annual reunion. This year, Marcelle and her team are planning to recognize a crew member who they recently just lost this past May 20, 2022. Marcelle is supported by the "Hawaii Swimming Club", as she uses all of their equipment to run the aid station; and because most of her weekend volunteer hours are spent supporting swimming. But her love for cycling is as strong as it was in 1983!

Kualoa-Heʻeia Ecumenical Youth Project was founded in 1968 through the efforts of churches, community residents, and social service agencies. Several ministers saw the need for an agency to serve low-income, at-risk youth in semi-rural areas from Kualoa Point to Heʻeia. Equipped with support from the Episcopal, Methodist, and Catholic churches along with private trusts and foundations, these community leaders accepted the responsibility of caring for the youth in their community. Over time, KEY Project has expanded service to a wide spectrum of community members from keki to kupuna, and from individual members to large organizations who regularly enjoy using KEY Project facilities for their programs and gatherings.
The mission of KEY Project is to nurture and promote the cultural, environmental, social, economic, and recreational well-being of the Kualoa-Heʻeia area by providing a vital grassroots civic resource that effectively serves the needs of our diverse multicultural community.
