HBL’s 50th Anniversary

In 1975, a group of dedicated volunteers believed that acting locally was the best way to respond to a global energy crisis. Their vision—to help people choose bicycling for health, recreation, and transportation—has inspired a half-century of advocacy, education, and community connection across Hawai‘i.

Today, the Hawai‘i Bicycling League is a powerful grassroots movement for fun, active, and sustainable transportation. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we invite you to be part of the next chapter.

Support: Safe Streets For All

From protected bike lanes to Vision Zero, HBL’s advocacy makes streets safer for everyone—bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers alike. Your gift amplifies our voice at the Capitol, in community meetings, and with decision-makers who shape the future of transportation on Hawai‘i’s streets.

Support: Education from Keiki to Kūpuna

Whether you’re learning to ride for the first time or brushing up on street skills, HBL’s free classes and workshops empower riders of all ages. Help us expand this vital education—from BikeEd in schools to senior cycling clinics—so everyone can ride with confidence and joy.

Support: BikeEd Hawai’i Truck Replacement

For over 35 years, BikeEd has taught safe cycling to 4th graders across Oʻahu. But one of our trusty transport truck is on its last leg. Help us raise $35,000 to purchase a new vehicle so we can continue reaching nearly 100 schools each year with this life-changing program.

Annual Benefit Dinner

Join HBL on June 20th for dinner at Kupu’s Ho‘okupu Net Shed in Kewalo Basin and support our 50th anniversary. Fundraising from silent auction, pledge drive, and more will help our programs continue into the future.

50 Years of HBL Merchandise

HBL collaborated with local artist, Eric Karbeling, to bring a unique and fresh look to some of our merch. As the year unfolds we’ll be adding new merch to the store. Check out what we have so far! It looks awesome!
