It was a busy week at the Hawai‘i Capitol as committee hearings began in earnest. Dozens of bills have been introduced that have significant potential to both improve and weaken the environment for bicycling, walking and rolling across Hawai‘i.
HBL submitted testimony in support of SB 106 and SB 1117. These Senate bills were advanced, with amendments, including recommendations from HBL. We submitted testimony in opposition to HB 184 and HB 708. Decision-making for these House bills has been deferred until 2/4/25. On 2/3/25, HBL submitted testimony supportive with comments for HB 435 and HB 958, HB 670 and in opposition to HB 486. On the Senate side HBL submitted testimony in support of SB 1195, SB 1123, SB 1124, SB 1667
We will be submitting testimony for SB 1666 in support of piloting Open Streets, a project to restrict cars on certain roadways during certain times. This is scheduled for hearing on February 11 at 3:00pm
We are continuing to meet with lawmakers to provide additional context about our positions. Your voice is welcomed to leverage our impact.
Please to join us for an Interactive Zoom conversation on February 5th at 5:30pm. We’ll be discussing key bills as well as offer tips about how to submit testimony and participate in the 2025 Legislative Session. This will be recorded for registered participants and made publicly available.
