These free workshops are put on by the Hawai‘i Bicycling League and funded in part through a grant from the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Transportation Services.
Are you an adult who has never been on a bike before (or haven’t been on one for decades)? Come out to a FREE workshop held by the Hawai‘i Bicycling League, where our friendly & always patient instructors will get you rolling safely – whether you have never been on a bike before or it’s been a long while. Bring a bicycle or use one of ours.
This workshop includes:
Feeling scared to ride on the streets of Hawai‘i with traffic? HBL can help with that. Bring your bicycle and come out to HBL’s free hands-on, on-bike workshop that will have you feeling at ease pedaling around the town. Better your bike control, learn what your rights are as a cyclist & why exercising them is key to having a comfortable & enjoyable bike ride, wherever you go. After participating in this interactive & fun 2-hour workshop we guarantee you’ll be feeling so much more confident cycling on your two-wheels.
What to bring:
This 2.5-hour workshop equips any adult rider with the knowledge, skills, and “insider cycling scoops” to tackle any road situation! Want to get better at tackling hills? You’ll learn efficient shifting & braking techniques here! New to group riding? Our expert League Cycling Instructors will cover the essential do’s and dont’s for safe group riding (and will help you look like a seasoned cyclist at your first group ride!). You’ll get to master bike control by performing advanced avoidance maneuvers to keep the “rubber side down” before wrapping up with an instructor-led group ride around the neighborhood.
What to bring:
Electric bicycles are giving more people access to the awesome world of bicycling – but there are key differences that you should know about. This 2-hour interactive workshop will go over the most essential e-bike topics, covering what Hawai‘i’s laws say about e-bikes, introduction & rundown of e-bike lingo, what sets them apart from traditional bicycles, pros & cons on different component options, and best practices for safe e-biking in Hawai‘i!
This workshop includes:
This 90-minute hands-on introductory course to teach any adult (no prior mechanical experience needed!) how to fix a flat tire with ease, lubricate their chain, and keep their bicycle in tip-top shape. We will make sure that you come out of this workshop empowered with the most important bike maintenance skills so that you can continue to ride happily, for many miles to come.
Flat tires getting in the way of your ride enjoyment? Not after coming to this class!

Space is limited & pre-registration is required.
All workshops are suited for those 16 years of age and older, and provided free of charge (donations are optional) around the island of O‘ahu.

For cancellations/no-shows with less than 24 hours notice there will be a $20.00 cancellation/no-show fee for costs incurred. Because these workshops have limited bikes, no-shows and late cancellations deprive someone else from the opportunity to learn.
