In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day. The resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes “the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.”
This year, as Hawai‘i Bicycling League celebrates our 50th anniversary, the Office of Governor Josh Green presented us with an official proclamation declaring June 3, 2025 as World Bicycle Day in Hawai‘i (linked below)
To celebrate, we are inviting folks to join us for a potluck bicycle pa‘āina. We’ll be gathering at Kolowalu Park Makai on Queen Street in Kaka‘ako. This bicycle and pedestrian friendly destination has bike facilities including a Biki station, adjacent bike lanes and nearby, a new bike/ped bridge over Ala Moana Blvd where we will ride to after some celebratory remarks. This infrastructure helps create safer experiences for all, whether you walk, ride, roll, or drive a car.
