UPDATE: Kauaʻi Wins! National Recognition awarded Ke Ala Hele Makālae

UPDATE 8/29/24: HBL is delighted to report that Ke Ala Hele Makālae received the most votes in the 2024 Rails to Trails Conservancy contest and will soon be inducted into their Hall of Fame! Read the official announcement here.

Mahalo to everyone who voted! HBL congratulates the Kauaʻi bicycling community, the County of Kauaʻi, Kauai Path, and all groups and individuals involved in the development of Ke Ala Hele Makālae on receiving this honor. 

A celebration for Ke Ala Hele Makālae’s Hall of Fame induction is currently planned for October 19th, 2024 at the annual Make a Difference Day at Lydgate Beach Park. More details to come in our October newsletter.

Three multi-use trails are up for a chance to join Rails to Trails Conservancy’s Hall of Fame and
Ke Ala Hele Makālae on Kaua‘i is one of them. Since 2007, RTC has honored over 35 trails across the country with this recognition based on merits such as scenic value, high use, trail and trailside amenities, accessibility, historical significance, excellence in management and maintenance of facility, community connections and geographic distribution.
