May 4 (Sat) Free Bike Maintenance Clinic
5/04 (Saturday) Fix-a-Flat Workshop
What: A hands-on introductory course to teach any adult (no prior mechanical experience needed!) how to fix a flat tire with ease, lubricate their chain, and keep their bicycle in tip-top shape. We will make sure that you come out of this workshop empowered with the most important bike maintenance skills so that you can continue to ride happily, for many miles to come.
When: 10:00am – 11:30am

May 5 (Sun) National Ride a Bike Day
5/05 (Sunday) Cruise to da Brews
What: Bikes and Beers. Hop on a bike and we’ll be riding 3 miles to Howzit Brewing. Meet up with Chris Salas for this planned route along the King Street Cycle Track for National Ride a Bike Day or ride your own route and meet us there. Taqueria Hawaii will be selling tacos out front and Trivia starts at 6 if you want to play. Remember to bring a helmet and lights for your bike.
When: 5PM
Where: Starting at Honolulu Old Stadium Park and biking to Howzit Brewing
May 11 (Sat) Adult Learn to Ride Workshop
5/11 (Saturday) Adult Learn to Ride – Free Workshop!
What: Are you an adult who has never been on a bike before (or haven’t been on one for decades)? Come out to a FREE workshop held by the Hawaii Bicycling League, where our friendly & always patient instructors will get you rolling safely – whether you have never been on a bike before or it’s been a long while.Bring a bicycle or use one of ours!Registration is required in advance and is limited to 7 participants per workshop.

May 13-17 National Bike to Work Week
HBL is excited to celebrate National Bike to Work Week! We look forward to saying thanks to everyone who rides their bike to work, and encouraging people to give it a try. Commuting by bike is a great way to get your daily exercise in and is way more fun than sitting in traffic! While we think every day can be a great day to ride a bike, we’re excited to highlight biking to work May 13-17 and celebrating commuting on two wheels!

May 16 (Thursday) Paved Paradise: How Parking Explains the World
What: This month’s Better Tomorrow Speaker Series will feature Henry Grabar who will discuss how better parking policies can make more livable, sustainable cities. May 17 (Friday) How Parking Ruined America’s Cities… and what we can do about it
What: Honorary Host Councilmember Tyler Dos Santos-Tam proudly presents Paved Paradise: How Parking Explores the World author Henry Grabar. Henry is a Harvard planning fellow and a journalist from Slate who has released a fast-paced, witty, and well-researched book on how badly designed parking policy destroys everything. He shows how excess parking requirements and poor use of space elevates housing prices, destroys wetlands, hurts small businesses, exacerbates inequality, and, not least, drives us all to distraction. May 18 (Sat) Zach's Ride in Paradise for Safe Streets

This event will incorporate a short ride in urban Honolulu, a rally for safer streets at the State Capitol, and a talk-story over lunch.
The community-based ride brings people together for the love of biking and emphasizes our need for safer streets and sharing Hawaiʻi’s roads. Our responsibility to look out for one another with Aloha.

The rain had us feeling a little too gloomy last week, so we rescheduled our Commuter Portraits. This is a chance to capture you and your commuter bike and celebrate biking to work!
