As an HDOT National Transportation Highway Traffic Safety Administration Grantee, Hawai‘i Bicycling League regularly meets with transportation stakeholders, policy leaders, and the public to ensure that we are realizing opportunities to make our roads safer for everyone.

On October 8th and 9th, we gathered at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport for a traffic safety summit convened by HDOT. The epidemic of traffic violence facing Hawai‘i road users is tragic and sobering, especially this year. At this writing, there have been 108 fatalities and 313 serious traffic injuries on Hawai‘i roads.

Participants gathered for a series of sessions to review trends and discuss strategies so that we can make meaningful progress toward shared community goals of zero traffic fatalities. Additional links to current traffic data, safety projects, and goals can be found in this HDOT Press Release from October 24, 2025.
