Cycling Shimanami Kaido 2026

Hawai’i Bicycling League is invited to participate in the Cycling Shimanami 2026 event in Japan on October 25th, 2026. In recent years, Ehime Prefecture officials have attended the Honolulu Century Ride and invite our members to participate in their signature event.

This event includes riding on a normally car-only expressway, across stunning bridges spanning the inland sea, with aid stations featuring local food and culture. There are various distances (ranging from 55km to 140km) and start/finish locations. This event is held every two years, and expects to attract nearly 7000 participants from around the world.

Registration will open later this spring. Entry rates have not been finalized, but are expected to be approximately $150 per person. This is a lottery system, but HBL has a selection of spots allotted to us. Our partner in Japan, HM-A, will assist with event registrations.

Anyone interested in participating in this event is encouraged to reach out to HBL Executive Director, Travis Counsell

While HBL is not directly organizing a tour associated with this event. We have partnered with Taste of Japan Bike Tours, who has organized a tour of Shimanami and Oita from October 23rd to October 31st.

HBL will receive a $200 donation for each tour participant who signs up and notes they heard of the tour from Hawai’i Bicycling League. Please be sure to acknowledge HBL during your initial interest.
