THE HAWAII BICYCLING LEAGUE NAMES CHAD TANIGUCHI NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Honolulu – June 17, 2010 – The Hawaii Bicycling League (HBL), Oahu’s only membership advocacy organization for cycling, is pleased to announce the appointment of Chad Taniguchi as its new Executive Director. HBL is a non-profit organization that promotes safe cycling, alternative transportation and cycling- and pedestrian-friendly communities. Taniguchi will assume his new role on July 1, 2010.

“We are excited about Chad Taniguchi joining our team and are confident that his talent and vision will prove effective in helping HBL reach its goals of improved cycling education for children and youth, and safer roads for everyone across the state,” said HBL Board President Bob Bengtson. “Chad is well known in the community and his passion for cycling make him a great fit to lead the organization.

Taniguchi most recently served as executive director of the Hawaii Public Housing Authority. His extensive background in state government will serve as an excellent platform for HBL's continued advocacy efforts in the areas of transportation planning, and cycling and pedestrian rights and responsibilities. Taniguchi will also manage the organization's marquee special events such as the annual Honolulu Century Ride which draws thousands of cyclists from across Hawaii, the mainland and Japan each September.
